AUTHOR/ SPIRITUAL HEALER/ VISIONARY
People recognize you as a spiritual teacher, author, inspirational speaker and healer. How did you come to gain so many wonderful titles and do such a spiritually demanding and also enhancing work?
I was born into a family of healers and serious metaphysical students. Psychic abilities, visions, angels and luminous light were a part of my natural makeup. Although I had a conscious connection with the ‘other side’ of life, it was basically inactive as far as my using the blessings for anything good. I do remember being included in a couple of my parents visits to participate in the amazing energy of a visiting woman healer to the Chicago area and feeling the wonder that accompanies a truly gifted being.
It wasn’t until I already had three children and found myself in a precarious position where I had to go to the emergency room for a serious infection that my life as it had been known suddenly stopped and never returned. A fairly simple surgery on my lower abdomen had taken place approximately four days previously. In the days following the surgery, undesirable symptoms gradually appeared. I felt pain in the area noticing red streaks and increased swelling. A high fever quickly developed. It didn’t take long to be immersed in an emergency situation.
I had just given our newborn son his 10:00AM feeding and felt so terrible that I went back to bed, which was located right near his bassinet. Being home alone with the baby, I made a decision. If angels assist other people with astonishing healings, why not help me? Making a decision not to call humans for help or travelling to the hospital with the baby…I simply surrendered my life to a higher Power. The strange part of the ‘out of this world’ experience was my falling unconscious. There was a clock next to the bed and I had noticed the time. I was unconscious for a full hour. When I opened my eyes, my hands were still placed on the infected area. Pain, swelling, red streaks and fever were gone! In their place, was a sticky substance. When I got up and examined the six inch long stitches, it was obvious that an angelic presence, had created two holes, one on each end of the incision. Everything had drained and I was healed! I would not ever recommend that anyone follow my example. Why? To be healed in such a way demands a particular mindset.
This was the beginning of a totally new life, a life centered on God and service to others. My personality changed dramatically as did habits, activities and friendships. Many people say that healers have difficulty healing themselves. Wrong! As I said, a particular mindset is required of us. In my second book, Be-Embracing the Mystery, I discuss this subject in depth. It was as if I had been born a different person. Many spiritual gifts began to immediately manifest through me including the healing of others.
How long has it been since then?
The miracle occurred thirty years ago.
Did you begin being recognized as a spiritual teacher and healer straight afterwards or did it take some time?
I did not mention the amazing healing to anyone, including my husband. He did observe that there was something very different about me. Shortly afterward, I experienced difficulty with my eyesight. I went to a specialist and was informed that I had cataracts in both of my eyes. The diagnosis did not upset me because I knew if I surrendered my eyes to a higher Power a healing would again take place. It did.
In answer to your question, people were drawn to me with chronic and serious physical problems with my saying very little about the subject. At first, family and friends asked to be touched and it always worked. At the time, my niece, a junior high school student, came to live with us for one year. She promptly invited young people with problems to open up and share with me. It was a very special time. Imagine for a moment a group of young people sitting on the floor in a circle, including the newborn and myself. Most afternoons, they gathered in our living room for their own personal reasons. Healings did take place on many different levels.
One young girl had a growth behind her eye and the result was the cancellation of her surgery. Another junior high student had been smoking the combination of marijuana and experimenting with a psychic energy board/game attracting earth bounds spirits with harmful motives. The girl was my first exorcism case. She was healed and later went on to become a physician.
How does your family, especially children react towards what you do – your healing work, writings and a totally different outlook to life?
They were young at the time and did not become aware of how important it was and is to me until later.
Do any of your children have ability like yours?
Two of them see Light and actively share thoughts and experiences with me. The third may but has never mentioned the subject although he listens. Before they were born, I prayed for a soul who would love truth to enter their forms. We are on the same wavelength as far as our love for Nature and living true as integrity and compassion.
Regarding my ability to serve, the possibilities expanded and as a result, the services. It wasn’t until a few years passed that I joined a local group of serious truth seekers. They asked me to form a new healing group and that is how Circle of Light was birthed as an organization. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, the organization was quite large. Later, I walked away from the organization, speaking engagements and consultations to spend more time in meditation.
How did you come to begin doing healing and trusting your ability – especially trusting your ability? I remember, in our previous conversations you mentioned Holy Spirit and its blessing. Could you possibly expand more on that?
I was born trusting. None of this could have happened if I did not completely have a trusting, believing faith, which is very interesting in itself. Prior to this time, I did not consider myself as religious, only a seeker of truth. I understand and feel the golden thread of truth that runs through all ‘religions’. The direct result of this perspective is a universal consciousness. We are all spirit in form. I call the sublime energy, the Holy Spirit, because it is pure, sacred, intelligent, loving and All-Knowing. I call upon the Creative and Comforting Power and the energy visibly and tangibly comes.
The Presence is available to those with pure intent who trust. Remember, I was physically born into a family of soul searchers and healers. For those who have not yet developed trust, learn to do it with simple issues. Trusting is our part of the equation. The ideal is Spirit and matter working together as a whole.
This is becoming very interesting. How does Holy Spirit appear to you? Does it appear as a form or light or you simply feel its essence/energy vibrating within and around of you? How does that work?
The Presence of the Holy Spirit comes in a variety of ways. Sensation and inner sight is involved. I have had visions and crown charka experiences since an early age but like many people took them to be a natural experience. What I am saying is the luminous beings, visions and psychic and spiritual gifts were already present before the healing. I was also able to ‘see’ the physical world with my eyes closed. So…it could be said that I was conditioned for the supernatural phenomena right from the beginning although being a transmitter for a healing energy had not yet manifested.
What I refer to, as the Holy Spirit is an immeasurable energy, which can be white, blue, violet or gold radiant iridescent light energy. It can be any colour actually and in form or no form. When it comes, a thrill pulsates through me announcing Its activity. I usually feel great warmth in my heart, throat, forehead and crown area. The energy is felt in my hands as well. Sometimes, I do not even touch the person. The energy leaps over and bathes the recipient and we continue to sit quietly in a silent and blissful state of oneness.
When you do healing, do you do it from your own energy resources or it comes through you from the Higher form?
My part is to call upon the One Power. What comes is Unlimited and not related to a particular religion or philosophy, although I have named the power, the Holy Spirit. Many souls who have pure intention and willingly help others frequently believe they are transmitting their own energy to another person. I do not look at the exchange in my own journey that way. Why? From one person to another involves a sense of limitation. If a practitioner believes that is what he or she is doing, it will be the experience. The Holy Spirit is infinite, ineffable, intelligent Light, the Higher form so to speak. Why limit Reality?
Is that why you wrote your second book, BE-Embracing the Mystery?
Actually, I was jotting down feelings for several years prior to the forming of the Circle of Light organization. The writings were incorporated in my first book, Circle of Light. Be-Embracing the Mystery was written later in 2007. The contents include angelic experiences, visions, healing cases, healing tools and ancient wisdom teachings as lived during the intervening years. I could not decide on a title for the book. Finally, one night before going to bed I clearly heard a voice say the word, “BE” and I had my title.
Let’s go back… You said you have created an organization, Circle of Light. What is the purpose of this organization? Is it still alive nowadays?
The energy of the organization and book by the same name is described in the Circle of Light group on Facebook. The force behind the creation is to bring a higher and brighter light of understanding to sincere seekers who choose the way of wisdom and love.
There is a circle of light that is far greater than any organization or book of words; it is the circle of vibrant souls who are conscious of their purpose in living. The circle is expanding during this cycle of ongoing change. It is an illuminating ring of spiritual power both seen and unseen that is elevating the vibrations of our planet in such a way that a new consciousness is dawning in the hearts and minds of men and women throughout the world.
The purpose of the physical organization was to help seekers awaken and accept their true identity as spirit/light in physical form. It once was a large organization. I would travel to other states offering lectures and workshops.
Since I am not drawn to organizations, I chose to leave it. Five years ago, we locally began again as an intimate group of serious lovers of truth.
The title itself is very inspiring and embracing an extremely wide subject. How did you become inspired to choose exactly this particular title?
As I already mentioned, I was intuitively given the word, BE. I discovered soon afterwards that sometime in the past there had been a very popular song created and recorded by Neil Diamond called “BE”. It is then that I decided to add the ‘Embracing the Mystery’ subtitle. When I looked up the words to Diamond’s song on the Internet, it was very obvious that we were riding the same wave. The song came from his, Jonathon Livingston Seagull movie about a seagull daring to fly higher and explore unknown regions of space.
Could you say that a special shift in the consciousness of humanity is happening right now?
Yes. From my understanding, I view evolution as a physical and mental ascension. Simultaneously, individual souls are slowly awakening to inner identity and purpose. There exists evolving cycles in awareness and possibilities. Although the collective consciousness appears dark at times, the light of the spirit is actually expanding. We have entered a higher octave. People have a choice to ride the wave or drown. For the shift to take hold old patterns that retarded and corrupted the soul and humanities progress must be changed.
What topics or topic does your book BE-embracing the Mystery cover? Do you do teaching based on your book or you simply deeper explore another part of human’s existence - spirituality?
BE covers our invisible friends, the ‘Other Side’, the science of Light, vibration, cycles, ancient schools and teachers and offers teaching tools. Although the focus is primarily on the Higher Self, I clearly explain the different levels of our subtle bodies. The book is mystical and filled with experiences of firsthand contact with Divinity. It is also practical, illustrating the importance in developing character, thought and the use of Will. BE offers genuine magical moments, cause behind effect and the sublime energy of belief and love. It is a book about our healing in body, mind and soul.
As far as new material for classes, I prefer fresh ‘manna’. Meaning…I do not normally use the material in the book. Since I already live it, my intent is to present ancient truths in new and stimulating ways. There is only One Truth. At a certain level, those who have reached a higher understanding speak the same language…the language of the angels. New doors are always opening.
You also do workshops. How do you carry your workshops? How long do they last and what is it all about?
As said previously, I used to be very active in the public speaking field. Recently, I knew it was time to return. Being open in my understanding, workshops range from a Christian viewpoint, Vedic, Sufi, Egyptian, Kabalistic, Sacred Geometry, different forms of healing and much more. Colour, sound, movement, divine breath, suggestions, returning to the past, viewing the future and always the sublime energy of the Divine is active and touches both the participants and myself. I rarely repeat the same lecture or workshop. The workshops last at least two hours.
How often are you invited to do a workshop?
I do not now or before employ an agent. In the past, my calendar was full. Since I am returning to public life, it would be very helpful to have a public relations/marketing assistant. Activity will increase because people are seeking others who are genuine and compassionate. Since the new book, My Own Tree, is available June 2010, opportunities to share are again coming my way.
What places or organizations or groups of people usually want to hear you speak and teach?
They range from government offices, businesses, women’s organizations, self-help groups, retirement homes and churches. The Catholic Church is very open to the angel presentations. I tailor the presentation to the audience.
Could you give an example of successful healing experience/or certain shift that happened to another person?
Healing happens on many levels. I personally know that it is very important for an inner healing to occur in order for an outer healing to remain permanent. Of course, I have my favourites. One of the first miracles blessed an elderly woman. When Anne was 17 years old, she experienced an accident working on a neighbour’s farm. In her case, I was intuitively given the ‘cause’ behind her life of spinal suffering. I told her the reason. She believed me. Then, I suggested she go into her room and forgive herself for a past act that she did not even remember. Ann was immediately healed and has lived without pain every since that amazing moment. Anne is now 106 years old. In fact, this month, June, she travelled by car with her youngest son to South Dakota. She is aware and mobile.
Wow! This is an amazing account. Do individual people look for your help in healing?
Yes. I used to have a very active practice. The emphasis has changed somewhat during the last ten years. I do my best to encourage people who are ready to honour their own inner holiness to seek a firsthand experience with the Divine. A seeker must develop a keen awareness, be responsible, trust and live courageously by allowing a higher Power to take charge and bring forth the balance he or she needs. If I can live in two worlds at once, any soul can. It will work if a firm belief is established as the foundation. Healing also involves commonsense habits and a beneficial diet for the mind, emotions and body. We must respect the whole package that we call the self.
There is another question ringing in my mind and I believe readers would be curious to know it as well. Do you take payments for your healing work?
The majority of people do charge. I do not. I tried it and did not feel comfortable. How can a number be placed on ‘grace’? If someone would like to give a donation or barter in return for receiving and being blessed, it is always welcomed because I must put food on the table as well. The majority of people who charge have taken classes and been trained in that subject area. They also receive certificates. I have never taken a class on healing nor do I have a certificate. My teacher is the One Power and Presence and the certificate is the authority of the Divine that freely flows through me. Everyone is not healed. To write about why they are not would be similar to writing another book.
One more thing I am curious about… Do you get often sick? And if yes, how do you get well again?
I have not been sick for over thirty years…meaning colds, flu and whatever humans are normally subject to. I do on occasion experience an allergic reaction to environmental and food products.
Recently you have published your third book ‘My Own Tree’. What is it all about?
Circle of Light book and Be-Embracing the Mystery are serious books for thoughtful students of the Light. Many of us are experiencing very heavy challenges right now, particularly financially. At the same time, watching earth and her life being ravaged is sickening to anyone who is the least bit sensitive and compassionate. I strongly feel that I can personally use truth in the guise of playfulness and magical moments and help lighten the load during these challenging and changing times.
“My Own Tree” offers an experience in self-empowerment, and step-by-step tools that people will love. It will remind you of the wonder and magic that hopefully permeated your life as a child. The book is a magical analogy that exemplifies a message, creating cohesion of both spirit and matter, through movement, sound, colour, spiritual laws of life and affirmation. It is a workbook for all ages filled with healing and celebration. Tools are shared that utilize our senses, intention and imagination and encourage readers to participate and have a great time doing it. As one author friend commented, ‘Shirlee would like to see more people experience a short cut to joy’.
The book and its contents have a powerful energy that if earnestly applied will help a person heal his or her self. I’ve been offering successful workshops for a long time. I know what works. The energy can be used repeatedly for one’s self or in a group situation. ‘My Own Tree’ actually has a photograph of me hugging a tree and a wonderful illustration of a Tree House that can be your very own. Sensitive souls really need hope right now, a booster shot, and the colourful book and the reader’s participation provides just that.
Another great thing you have done with your third book was to go into collaboration with Dave Glenn Alley, who has created A Living Totem: Walking Meditation CD to accompany your book. How did you come to think of having such a collaboration and why?
Dave and I connected on Facebook. He is a great musician and artist and now a special friend who had thirty unheard songs available that he was imaging for a new CD. Dave asked me to choose eleven songs for a new album and somehow tie them in with what I do in the healing field. Because of his enthusiasm and integrity, I agreed. Having never met, the entire collaboration is built on trust.
I suggested that besides the charka/energy centers colour and ancient finger movements he was using while walking the meditation that I be given the liberty to name each movement as a step that will help the participant climb the Tree of Life. In other words, a spiritual law for living and an assigned colour for each step. I also created an affirmation to go with each law. This entire vision is expanded upon within my new workbook suggesting an earth perspective for each step and a sky perspective. I love the cover! It was Dave’s idea.
Dave also asked if I would write a text that he would insert in the sleeve of the CD. As I was putting all this together, the idea of writing a workbook, which would expand on the energy we were generating, came to mind. It is actually a ‘playbook’. The two are a winning combination. The intent is to breathe in life from the roots of a physical connection; awaken creativity, courage, personal power and passion. From the ground up, through breath and intention, we take the participant through ten steps into self-mastery and cool down in the eleventh step. Why not be fully alive and stir up long forgotten dreams and do it effortlessly?
When I hand people My Own Tree and Living Totem, they usually smile and exclaim, “I love this!”
And how do you feel now that your book is out and available for people to study and apply?
There are thousands of people who are in the healing arts. What many do not realize is that it is always best to heal our own mind and body first. I know this is not always possible but it serves several purposes. One, the practitioner will not be prone to ‘picking’ up the negativity from his or her patient. Two, the more balanced and stable we are as an individual, the greater our ability to effectively serve others. We need to be an example of the service we offer.
My Own Tree is written for both the giver and the receiver. There is no value or certificate that can match firsthand experience. A genuine experience in the healing field moves us from an intellectual approach to a heart understanding and the results are amazing.
Do you think you will be writing any more books soon afterwards?
I have several manuscripts hidden away. When the right time comes to actually get more insights published, I will. One vision that I have had is looking at a shelf where a series of books were lined up in a row. I understood at the time that they all came from my hand.
Do you find it hard to incorporate your writing and your healing into your daily life?
No. This is my life. When something is right, the energy flows and is good, very good. A focus on service to others with my type of sensitivity with the higher vibrations must be honoured. What is meant is this. When it is a natural expression to give to others, the giver must remember to also give to his or her self. This means to sustain a state of being called equanimity. Life for me is definitely walking a tightrope. I must firmly sustain a balance physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and materially. The ideal for all souls who desire to be free is to live in balance from both an earth and a sky perspective.
For instance…the majority of the time I have felt reluctant to ask for compensation for the time, energy and love that I offer. Living with this attitude made it a challenge in the area of being able to pay ordinary living household bills. I finally realized that although I consider what I offer to be a blessing acquired as a result of firsthand experience and angelic help, there must be some form of exchange between the receiver and myself.
Ironically, many humans do not place a value on anything that is free or sacred. Those who take must also learn to give. The odds of a healing being permanent may also in isolated cases be connected to the idea of giving in return.
Gratitude is a very strong proponent of health and joy in all areas of our life.
To conclude our conversation, would you recap how you feel regarding receiving help from the subtle worlds of Light?
People ask me to explain the phenomena because it is difficult to understand. Yes, I receive angelic help but something else occurred originally and continues to this day. The personality surrendered to the higher part of her Self, the Spirit within. This is the result of letting go and allowing the immortal divine Light, the God spark, to fill us with more light, love and wisdom. Everyone has the divine light essence, Spirit. It is the power that keeps us breathing. The amazing part is our awakening to its Presence. It is up to us to love, trust, respect and give permission to the Sacred to live visibly and tangibly as us. When this power is active, we are filled with intense gratitude and really come to life as children of God.
If an individual accepts his or her own identity as spirit temporarily expressing in dense matter and honours its presence, he or she can live a God-Realized life. It is a state of mind, a consciousness, available to a sincere seeker who functions from a level of pure intent. To awaken from the dream of separation and live in this keen awareness, we must have belief, trust, be persistent and patient, expand the feeling of compassion and view all life from a larger perspective. Judging others or being selfish is not part of the equation.
The result is amazing! We become genuine, an authentic being at last! At a higher level of soul evolution, we have an opportunity to reach beyond the typical astral-emotional invisible plane accessed and used by souls who are not yet fully enlightened. There are levels of consciousness in the subtle worlds of light. Remember, ‘as above so below’. Always reach higher! A human who gladly embraces and willingly lives with a consciousness of unconditional love and inner wisdom will receive some form of help from luminous beings whose loving intent is also to serve.
